Reflections on Light by Year 7

Candle Circle
In RS we have been talking about candles and what they mean to us. In our last lesson we put a candle in the middle of the room and we all sat around it. We did it to remember what light and dark meant. We sat for about a minute thinking about when we last saw a candle.
The dark is like hell and the light is like heaven.
In a church everyone is allowed to light a candle.
We sat in a circle in the dark and looked at a candle for a while. We did this so we could see what it meant to us.
I thought about my connection with the other people sitting in the circle. Some were friends and some were just people I know a little. Then I thought of how alone I would feel if there was no-one around. I wondered how it would feel like to be the only person on the planet. I wondered if I would feel a connection with anything at all.

In our lesson we had to sit in a circle and look at a candle, the purpose of this exercise was because we had to say what a candle made us feel i.e. did it remind you of a religious festival? When we were looking at the candle it reminded me of diwali and it also made me fell drowsy. We were using the idea of light and darkness to represent hell and heaven because light is usually used to represent Jesus and good and dark is used to represent hell and badness.

Sitting around the lit candle was very peaceful and calming it was so peaceful it made you want to fall asleep. When we were sitting in a circle around the candle it also made you think, think about things that have been bothering you or any of your concerns and it clears your mind at the same time.
I am glad we did this little activity because it made you think about important thing that means a lot to you like religion, beliefs and more.

We did this to see what affect light has on us. We discussed how light is featured in many different religions and what they represent. We found that most, if not all, religions used light as a symbol for good, not evil. For something happy, not sad.
When we did the Candle Circle, I thought about how humans are somehow drawn to the flame because of the risk that something dangerous might happen. I also thought about the many different uses we have for light, like candles on a birthday cake or to simply just to see in the darkness. I thought about how we cannot live light and realised just how important it is to us.
The lights were off and the blinds were closed which created an eerily calm effect to the classroom and it made me feel drowsy.
I thought the Candle Circle was a great experience and it was our time to think about anything and everything in the world.
